Taking leave from family and friends is always difficult, but it was especially hard for Paul. He knew that he would never see them again, which pained him greatly. At the same time, he knew that this was the will of God, and so he accepted it peacefully. Often, we let our own emotions and attachments direct our lives, but when we trust God and the guidance of the Spirit, our lives are no longer entirely our own. But we know that God will be with us every step of the way and give us the grace and strength we need. Jesus knew that He would no longer see His followers on this side of death. He prayed for God to bless them in particular ways: that they remain united with each other and with Him in heart, mind, and spirit; that they be protected from the evil one; and that they be sanctified in truth.

For John the Evangelist, the truth was Jesus Himself, God made flesh. Our relationship with Jesus must be direct and personal, for this unites us with the Father and grants us eternal life. This was the prayer of Jesus for the Apostles, and it is His prayer for us. May we all be one with each other, with Jesus, and with the Father.

Lord, may I be one with You and all who call on Your name.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
