The Ten Commandments are not 'ten suggestions.' They were given by God as the basic foundation of a society that is both humane and divine. They express reverence for God above all else, as well as respect and compassion for one another. The Commandments deal with envy, competition, and the desire to have more, which ruin so many societies and civilisations. Perhaps we could meditate on just one of them daily as we go about our business and let it be our guide.

Why do some believe, and others turn away? Why do people of faith go astray and leave the spiritual path?

The parable of the sower explains that the sower scatters the seed everywhere and in abundance. Everything depends on the soil - the human heart, mind, and soul. Some seeds will not sprout at all, others will sprout but wither away, and finally, some will not only sprout but also give an abundant harvest. The person receiving the seed of the Word of God must be eager and willing to receive it. But they must also be willing to nourish and protect it as it grows. We do that with prayer, meditation, and countless acts of mercy and kindness.

Lord, may Your Word bear fruit in my heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray that Catholics may place the celebration of the Eucharist at the heart of their lives, transforming human relationships in a very deep way and opening to the encounter with God and all their brothers and sisters.
