In saying "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (v16), Jesus indicated that our good deeds must spring from our faith in God. People must not see us as the end. Rather, it is God and hence glory is rightly conferred to God, our Father.

Faithfulness as disciples must be consistent and meaningful. Jesus uses salt and light, which the people are familiar with, to open them to a deeper appreciation and connection. Salt and light are not given as mere utilities for better taste and safer vision in everyday routine, but a connection with God the faithful provider, who delights in everything created as good. We too should at the end of day, pause and delight in the day's goodness.

St Paul assures the Corinthians of God's faithfulness and promise. In God, the fulfillment of His words will always be a committed "Yes, I will do it", which shows a plain contrast to our human hesitancy and withdrawal. God's resoluteness is seen in Prophet Isaiah, "Yes, I have decreed, yes, I will bring it to pass; I have formulated a plan, yes, I will carry it out" ( Is 46:11). In fact, Jesus assured us in John 14:14 "You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it." Indeed, God's "yes" is sturdy, even in the threat of death to Jesus, His Son, our Lord.

Dear Lord, let me taste Your goodness in serving others faithfully.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
