The foundation of a house is a necessary construction base to support the entire house. So, the metaphor of the house building Jesus uses to describe what is and how the foundation of our Christian life should look like is a compelling one.

What does a strong faith foundation look like? Jesus contrasts two kinds of followers: those in words only and the other in truth and action. The former pays lip service by proclaiming their devotion in words, calling on the Lord without any intention of imprinting them interiorly in their hearts and acting on them. They are likened to a man who built his house on sand which cannot provide a stable foundation; its structure will immediately collapse under inclement weather. The latter is one who, building his house on rock, gives it a solid and immovable base for its foundation. He is a true disciple: one who listens to Jesus' words attentively, takes them to heart and then acts on them. He is one who is wholly and integrally united with Him in heart, mind and body. His relationship with the Lord is steadfast, withstanding the test of time and the vagaries of life.

When we have appropriated ‘...that which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes..." (1 Jn 1) into reality in our lives, we have then allowed Jesus to be the sure foundation and the rock on which we build our lives.

Lord, may your Word be enfleshed and active in my life always. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
THAT THE WORLD MIGHT GROW IN COMPASSION.
Let us pray that each one of us might find consolation in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from his Heart, learn to have compassion on the world.
