St Paul lays out clearly Christian behaviour for four groups of people - the older men, the older women, the younger women, and the younger men. For the older men, he expects them to be "reserved, dignified, moderate, sound in faith and love and constancy." For the older women, he expects them to "behave as though they were religious (ie, reverent), with no scandal-mongering (ie, slanderous) and no habitual wine-drinking." Furthermore, these older women are expected "to be the teachers of the right behaviour and show the younger women how they should love their husbands and love their children, how they are to be sensible and chaste, and how to work in their homes, and be gentle, and do as their husbands tell them, so that the message of God is never disgraced." For the younger men, he expects them "to be moderate," ie, to be self- controlled, in all areas of their lives. What would happen if all these four groups of Christians were to live as St Paul taught? They would have good servant discipleship.

By behaving in this way, we are like the servants that Jesus speaks about today. We can say, "We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty." This is expected of us.

Lord, grant us wisdom and diligence to live out our lives as St Paul taught.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer you everything I do this day. I offer you my prayers, thoughts, words, joys and sufferings in union with the Eucharistic sacrifice of your Son Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit who guided and empowered Jesus be my guide and strength so that I can be a witness to your love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray for the proper use of wealth, that, without succumbing to the temptation of selfishness, it may always be put at the service of the common good and in solidarity with those who have less.
