This devotion is supported by a tradition that comes from a century after Mary's life. The Presentation of Our Lady in the Temple is told in a delightful apocryphal text known as the Protoevangelium of James (circa 200 CE). What stands out for us today is the obedience and discipleship of Mary.

In today's Gospel event, Jesus redefines family. When told His mother and relatives are anxiously waiting outside when He is speaking with the crowd, He points to His disciples and declares that whoever does the Will of God is His true family. This text honours Mary not just as the biological mother of Jesus, but as the ultimate disciple who lived God's Will perfectly. Mary is also the First Disciple. She surrenders totally to God and gives her whole life to God from her youth. She hears God's Word and carries it out. Her spiritual motherhood stems from her perfect obedience.

Today, we hear Jesus proclaiming that discipleship goes beyond bloodlines. He values faith and obedience over physical ties. Anyone can join this family by doing the Father's Will. When we carry out God's Will, we become brothers, sisters, and mothers to Christ through grace.

Therefore, we are called to offer ourselves to God; present our daily life and heart to God. Let God's Will guide our choices. We imitate Mary by saying "yes" to God in both big and small moments.

Lord Jesus, may I be brother or sister to others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer you everything I do this day. I offer you my prayers, thoughts, words, joys and sufferings in union with the Eucharistic sacrifice of your Son Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit who guided and empowered Jesus be my guide and strength so that I can be a witness to your love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray for the proper use of wealth, that, without succumbing to the temptation of selfishness, it may always be put at the service of the common good and in solidarity with those who have less.
