INTENTION : |
That everyone might have food.
Let us pray that everyone, from large producers to small consumers, be committed to avoid wasting food, and to ensure that everyone has access to quality food.
|
FOCUS
More than 750 million people do not have sufficient access to food to lead a healthy life, and about 260 million are in a state of food emergency. Climate change, armed conflicts, unjust economic models, and the scandalous waste of food are the main causes of this situation that severely affects humanity. We must all get involved at various levels. This includes praying and better understanding this harsh reality, awakening a genuine awareness in our hearts of what we can contribute from our contexts and mobilising others to join in this challenge. This prayer intention is a good opportunity to seek practical solutions together with people and groups from other faiths or communities with a humanitarian sense, such as creating local food banks or promoting awareness campaigns.
ATTITUDE OF THE HEART
Avoid food waste.
From consumption to care: The first step toward ensuring food for all is a change of heart. Moving from a logic of selfish consumption to a culture of care and solidarity: Every gesture counts - choosing mindfully, sharing joyfully, giving thanks simply. The world changes when we change the way we look at bread. (cf Step 3, The Way of the Heart - Humanising our habits. Humanising our environments)
OTHER DAILY ATTITUDES TO LIVE THIS PRAYER INTENTION
1. Value what you eat:
Recover the meaning of food as a gift. Bless your meals and give thanks to those who produced and prepared them.
2. Avoid food waste
Plan your shopping, watch your portions, reuse leftovers.
3. Choose products consciously:
Choose food that is produced with respect for the environment and for decent labour conditions.
4. Share with those who have less:
Donate food, prepare a meal, or invite someone in need to eat with you.
5. Educate children and youth in a culture of care:
Teach them that food should not be wasted, that many go without, and that sharing is an act of justice.
MONTHLY PRAYER
Lord of creation,
You gave us the fertile earth and, with it,
our daily bread, as a sign of Your love and providence.
Today we acknowledge with sorrow
that millions of brothers and sisters still suffer from hunger,
while so much food is wasted at our tables.
Awaken in us a new awareness:
that we may learn to give thanks for every meal,
to consume with simplicity,
to share with joy,
and to care for the fruits of the earth as your gift,
meant for all, not just a few.
Good Father,
make us capable of transforming the logic of selfish consumption
into a culture of solidarity.
May our communities promote concrete gestures:
awareness campaigns, food banks,
and a simple, responsible lifestyle.
You Who sent Your beloved Son Jesus,
bread broken for the life of the world,
give us a new heart, hungry for justice and thirsty for fraternity.
May no one be excluded from the common table,
and may Your Spirit teach us to see bread
not as a product to consume,
but as a sign of communion and care.
Amen.
