In today's Gospel, Jesus prepares His disciples for the persecution they will face when they follow Him. God often uses our trials as opportunities to witness to others. Following Jesus may cost us relationships, comfort or even our lives, but our eternal security is greater than our earthly suffering. Those who remain faithful to Christ through suffering show that they truly belong to Him.

And why is belonging to Christ so important? Belonging to Christ changes both our relationship with God and the purpose of our lives. We not only become God's children, we are also transformed through the Holy Spirit, helping us to grow in love, holiness and Christ-like character. We have hope in suffering, knowing that suffering is not the end, because Christ has overcome death.

Today's first reading gives a glimpse of heaven where God's justice is perfect and those who persevere in Christ share in His victory. Those who remain faithful to Christ, even through trials, will ultimately share in His triumph and join in the worship of God forever.

Lord, I pray for the grace of endurance when I go through suffering; to grow in love and holiness, that someday I may join You in Paradise.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer you everything I do this day. I offer you my prayers, thoughts, words, joys and sufferings in union with the Eucharistic sacrifice of your Son Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit who guided and empowered Jesus be my guide and strength so that I can be a witness to your love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray for the proper use of wealth, that, without succumbing to the temptation of selfishness, it may always be put at the service of the common good and in solidarity with those who have less.
