Winning" here is not mere success in wealth, power and status but to win for Christ, a wreath that will never wither. This expresses itself in the love and acceptance of others. This is precisely the basis of Paul's integrity which is love for individuals, whatever their religions or social status. This is also a way of sharing the fruits of the Gospels by bringing and sharing the Good News with others. It entails sacrifices on our part to serve the needs of others. Paul also gave the example of our body which is to be the vehicle of commitment and an instrument of love. It must be trained to be more responsive to the needs of others than of our own.

The Gospel reading continues to remind us, Christians, of the need to forgive those who have insulted and injured us, even at the cost of our rights and position. God Himself will show His mercy. Where there is such generous forgiving and giving, a person can expect an incomparably more generous attitude from God. This is self-forgetfulness, that is, not judging others and "giving till it hurts" is what real 'giving' means.

Lord, help me to be Your true instrument of peace and love especially in extending forgiveness to those who have hurt us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
