Jesus was causing great confusion in people's minds. They were really puzzled as to His real identity. They were divided between their direct experience of what He did and said and their interpretations of what the Scriptures seemed to say about the Christ, the Messiah. Even the police, sent to arrest Him, had come back empty-handed to their superiors. When asked why, all they could say was: "There has never been anybody who spoke like him." How could they arrest such a person? But the authorities knew better, they were the experts. Nicodemus, himself a Pharisee, is brushed aside when he suggests withholding judgement. The case is closed with the words: "Prophets do not come from Galilee." How often we, too, are blocked from hearing God's word spoken to us because our prejudices and preconceived ideas block our being aware of Jesus' presence? How many times have we failed to hear the voice of Jesus because we had decided He could not speak to me through this person or this situation?

O Lord, purify my heart of all prejudice so that I may see Your presence clearly in all the situations of my life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those who hold positions of responsibility in the Church may offer a shining example of a life which is always responsive to the guidance of the Spirit.
