Perhaps we read the account of Creation in Genesis today with new eyes. We can thank God for the absolutely wonderful environment which He prepared for us - not in six days - but over a period of millions, if not billions, of years. Our ancestors seem to have had a much greater understanding of Nature and of their intimate relationship with it. In recent centuries with the explosion of scientific knowledge we have become more and more masters of our environment but in the process have brought about its serious deterioration which threatens our very existence. Today, hopefully not too late, we have become aware that we are not masters but stewards. Made in the image of our Creator, we have to deal with our environment in a deep attitude of care and responsibility - whether we speak of other people (especially those deprived in any way), the animal and plant world and all else as well. We are not masters but servants who give and receive life from all that is around us.

Lord, may I grow constantly in the awareness of Your presence in all that surrounds me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all Christians, sensitive to the distressing condition of the peoples who are still suffering from hunger and thirst, may be moved to greater solidarity towards their brothers.
