The See of Peter is the mother see or diocese of the Catholic Church. Today's Gospel tells of the wonderful moment when Peter, as head of the small group of 12 close followers of Jesus, acknowledges that their Teacher is no less than the Messiah, the Christ, the long-awaited Saviour King of Israel. In praising Peter for his insight, Jesus reminds him that it is only through the inspiration of the Spirit that he has come to this awareness. On Peter the Rock He will make the foundation of the community of His followers. No matter how many threats it receives from a hostile world, it will survive. Two thousand years have proved the truth of this prophecy. Nevertheless, we can never be complacent. The life of the Church depends also on the faithfulness and unity of its members in following the vision of life which Jesus brought to us from His Father.

Lord, You know all things; You know that I want to love and follow You with all my heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all Christians, sensitive to the distressing condition of the peoples who are still suffering from hunger and thirst, may be moved to greater solidarity towards their brothers.
