Novena to the Sacred Heart

We usually dislike a braggart and we easily get tired of his self-praise. What then are we to make of Paul's boasting? We should observe his embarrassment: his hand is being forced. He asserts his credentials as an apostle and enumerates his achievements to counter his opponents who sought to discredit him. From this we learn that false humility is not a Christian virtue.

The disciples should pile up not earthly but heavenly treasure - no doubt by heeding the demands of the Sermon. The person who makes the right choice already experiences the riches of the heavenly kingdom. The parable (Mt. 6:22-23) probably speaks of the need for one to be illuminated by Jesus' teaching on the passing nature of earthly wealth lest one fall into darkness and illusion.

Lord, help us to realse it is You who lives to give us true life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
