Say the daily
Novena to the Sacred Heart

There are those who say that 'all those who call on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved'. Jesus seems to demand something more than this. 'It is not those who say to me, "Lord, Lord" who will enter the kingdom of heaven [of God] but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven.' And what is that will? According to the teaching of Jesus, it is to live our lives in unconditional love for each other, in bringing justice, freedom, dignity and peace into people's lives for these are the signs of God's active presence in the world and the sign that we have identified ourselves with Him. This is the Kingdom, God's will being done on earth. This is the sure foundation on which our lives are to be built for it is only in living like this that we are truly 'listening' to the words of Jesus our Lord. We may spend a lot of time saying all kinds of prayers but if we are not reaching out constructively in love we are no better than the babbling of pagans. True prayer only deepens our commitment to give ourselves to the 'faith that does justice'.

Help me, Lord, to pray so that I may become truly an instrument for the building of Your Kingdom.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
