A dramatic moment in Jesus' relationship with His disciples. They have been with Him now for some time and He asks them who they believe Him to be. Peter, in the name of all, says Jesus is the 'Christ of God'. 'Christ' or 'Messiah' means 'Anointed' and indicates they believe Jesus to be king, not just any king but the Saviour King the Jews have been looking forward to as their liberator. It must have been an exciting moment for them. But what a shock the following words must have been when they hear that their Master as Anointed King is to suffer grievously, be rejected by the elders of their own people and be executed before rising to life on the third day. It will take them a long time to understand and accept this. We, too, must learn to see the meaning of Christ's sufferings as an extraordinary demonstration of God's love for us. Then we can begin to understand our own pain.

Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
