Today's readings give us a glimpse of the work of the Spirit in people's lives. It is not those who say Lord, Lord, who enter the Kingdom of God but those who do the will of the Father. By their fruits you shall know them.

In the first reading Moses warns Joshua against jealousy because Eldad and Medah had received the gifts of the Holy Spirit even though they did not go to the Tent. In the Gospel, likewise, Jesus tells John not to stop those who are working miracles in His name, because they don't belong to the inner circle. How they live out their lives is what is important. He also warns them not to be an obstacle or bad example to others.

Looking around us we see many people who perhaps do not profess their faith openly yet in their lives they show forth the goodness and kindness of God through their attitudes and actions. On the contrary perhaps those who are seemingly "religious" can often be a cause of scandal to others. Who are we to judge our neighbour? We can only look into our own hearts and examine what kind of influence we have on others.

Lord, open our hearts so that the gifts of the Spirit may shine forth in our lives and that we may never be a scandal to others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
