We are coming to the end of our readings from Matthew and the end of Jesus' public life. This section deals with the end times and how we should prepare.

In two short parables, the message is very clear: BE READY! No one can predict the end of their life, no one knows the day or the hour. Every day we read in our papers of people whose lives have been terminated suddenly - and they are only a small fraction of the total. They include young and old, healthy and sick, rich and poor - no one can escape. The Lord comes like an unexpected thief. Or he is like an employer who comes back earlier than expected. It is not a good idea to decide to live a 'good' life (that is, a bad life!) and hope to make a 'good confession' just before it is the time to go. The only way to live is to live every moment in God's loving presence. If I am always ready NOW, I will not be concerned when the call comes, early or late.

Help me, Lord, to live every moment of every day in company with You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the European Union may know how to draw new nourishment from the Christian patrimony which has been an essential part of its culture and history.
