In today's first reading from the Book of Kings, we have the touching story of David as his life draws to a close, giving his last instructions to his son Solomon, who will replace him as King. Parents always want the best for their children and David is no exception. He wants his son to be successful and that the promises made to him by God will be fulfilled. He encourages his son to be strong and to live an upright life according to the commandments of God. Then he will be a good leader of Israel. Knowing that his life's work is now complete, David can go in peace to his resting place.

In today's Gospel reading Jesus is likewise training His followers who will continue His Mission after Him. Jesus wants to pass on to them all that the Father had made known to Him. They will be the ones to keep His mission alive. Each of our lives has an influence on others and each of us has our own particular contribution to make in this universe. Today is a good day to reflect on what we treasure most in life and what we wish to pass on to those coming after us, our children, our successors, our friends.

Lord, I thank You that I have my part to play in Your plan of salvation.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
