The story of Solomon's prayer is a valuable lesson for us. It teaches us to reflect on the things we should pray for, and at the same time teaches us about God's answer to our prayers. Solomon prayed for a spiritual gift, not for worldly possessions. And it was this attitude which won God's answer: "because you have asked for this ... I do as you requested." Then, when, we consider the things which we should pray for, let us carefully consider whether our request will be pleasing to God.

At the same time, the story teaches us about God's answer to our prayers. When God answers our prayers, He does not have to confine Himself to the petition which we make, but may freely add other graces that we need. If we feel that God does not answer our prayers, perhaps that is because we do not have the wisdom to see. God always answers our prayers, for He has already answered all our prayers in the mystery of Jesus and in the mystery of the coming of the Spirit.

Lord, grant us the grace to pray with wisdom, and in wisdom to realize where Your answer to our prayer lies, so that we will open our hearts to all the graces You so freely bestow on us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
