All of us are called, St Paul tells us, to live in freedom, but freedom will mean different things to different people. For Elisha, it meant destroying all that would hinder him from following God's call. The Psalmist was free enough in spirit to realize that God was his inheritance and his cup. Others might find their freedom in responding to Paul's challenge - out of love place yourselves at one another's service. Sadly, however, our freedom in offering ourselves to Jesus as followers is often not unconditional - we wish to retain something for ourselves.

Whatever else freedom may mean, it must mean life in accord with the Spirit of God, for in setting us free through His death and resurrection, Jesus gave us the Spirit. In teaching us the truth which Jesus revealed to us from the Father, the Spirit shows us the path of life and enables us to set the Lord ever before us, so that we can freely and unconditionally, with a full and joyful heart, say to Jesus "I shall follow You wherever You go".

Lord, grant us the grace that our response to You will always be free and unconditional.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all Christians may be constantly more aware of their personal and community responsibility to bear witness to God's love for humanity and for every man and woman.
