Jeremiah was the innocent victim of those who resented the presence and reproach of goodness among them. The desire to destroy the one whose life was a challenge to their evil living caused them to plot his downfall. In all this, of course, he prefigured Christ. Those who wanted to remove Him from their sight seized on anything to disprove His claims. Without making even the most ordinary enquiries about Him, they refused to believe even the facts of the place of Christ's birth and lineage.

There must be in the heart of a believer the desire for truth. Any contrary desire closes the mind to faith. The false desire at the root of all others is for self before God. The love of God must come first. To desire truth is to desire God and to have a heart and mind ready to listen to and receive His word.

Make the just stand firm, You who test mind and heart, O just God.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the land, culture and all the rights of the indigenous populations of the world may be respected, so that true harmony between them and those among whom they live may be attained.
