While we move from one season to the next, whether to good times or bad times, God alone can understand time in its wholeness. Let us sing with the psalmist of the wonderful steadiness and faithfulness of God in the shifting sands of time.

You can be sure that today's Gospel is about something important because Luke begins by telling us that Jesus was praying. If the disciples did not recognise who He truly was how could they take over the work when He left them? If Peter had said "you are a good man, or a great teacher, or a sociaal revolutionary, or a spiritual leader, or a philosopher" - he would have been partly right. But unless his answer included the statement "You are the Saviour", "You represent God" then the life-changing and world-directed effects of Jesus' mission which they, and we, were to continue after Pentecost, would have been lost.

Our answer to the question 'Who do you say that I am?' is as important now as was the disciples' then.

Lord, Jesus, You are my Saviour!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
