Jesus reminds us today that it is not we who find him but rather it is the Father who finds us and leads us to Jesus as the Way to God. We see a lovely instance of that in the First Reading today about the Ethiopian eunuch. He was reading a passage from Isaiah which he did not understand. Then Philip the deacon came along (sent by the Spirit) and explained the passage in such a way that the man asked for baptism. Having found Jesus as the Bread of his life, he went off home overjoyed. What was important here was the readiness and openness of the eunuch to be drawn to the truth.

So Jesus again repeats in the Gospel that He is the Bread of Life. Jesus' challengers were asking for a sign like "manna" but Jesus says that it did not give real life - those who ate that food have all died. The Bread that Jesus will give will bring a never-ending life to those who eat it. Jesus is the Living Bread because He is the very Word of God. This is what the eunuch discovered. The Bread of God's Word, which is the vision of life that Jesus gives, is all that we need to find a meaningful way through life.

Lord, feed us with this Bread always!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians may live their Sundays more truly as days of the Lord dedicated in a special way to God and their neighbour.
