"Receive and submit to the word planted in you: it can save your souls". These words of St James form our Alleluia verse today. They could serve as an introduction to our daily Scripture readings. Each time we listen to the word of God, it is implanted once again within us. We grow very familiar with the word of God as we listen to it and read it so often. It is good to recall that the word of God is always new, in quite a number of senses. Each time we hear the word of God it can be a new and enlightening experience - especially so if, as St James urges us, we listen to it with a receptive and submissive heart. For we always listen to the word of God from a new background and in new circumstances. Whatever happens in my daily life - joy or sadness - is another experience calling me to be attentive to God's presence, especially to God's word.

Lord Jesus, You spoke God's word to us in many new and invigorating ways. Grant us now an openness of heart and generosity of spirit that we may welcome God's word into our lives and so joyfully receive the gift of salvation.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
