The objective which Christ proposes is no other than perfection "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect". This is because we belong to "a people consecrated to the Lord", we are God's people. The law of perfection does not mean an external obligation: it is well written in our hearts and rejoices the heart. The prayer of our Liturgy today uses this doctrine in a supplication, may our Lord grant us always "to search the only thing needed and that we consecrate ourselves to the practice of the work of mercy". This is still emphasised in today's Gospel where Jesus tells us that the supreme law of God, revealed by Jesus, consists in the imitation our Heavenly Father who is perfect and whose perfection is manifested in the love of even our enemies.

Happy are those who keep His decree and seek Him with their whole heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
