Today's Gospel speaks to us about the importance of faith in God. When Jesus walked on the water, His disciples were terrified. Jesus once more reaffirmed His promise of love, encouraging them not to be afraid, but they could not respond, so far were they from understanding that the real liberation which God offers us is the internal freedom from fear and insecurity!

God first loved us and sent His only-begotten Son into this world. In response to this invitation of love, however, we are often confused, afraid to make any commitment of love to Christ. This fear is a sign of a lack of confidence both in ourselves and in God.

In love there is no fear. God's greatest promise is His love and mercy, offered to us in our sinfulness. Jesus came to liberate us from our internal fear and so enable us to love others more freely. By cooperating with God's love, we become true Christians, believing that God is love and trusting in that love.

Lord Jesus, through the Holy Spirit set us free from fear, and help us to love more freely.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
