We often read and sing the theme of today's Gospel "... He sent me to bring the Good News to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives, new sight to the blind ..." This is Jesus' person and ministry fulfilling the Old Testament prophecy as in Isaiah 61:1,2. It also speaks of the vocation and anointing of the prophet who is to bring consolation to Israel. In Luke 4:21, "This text is being fulfilled today even as you listen." Here Jesus fulfilled God's promise.

Jesus identifies His mission as listed above and we know that all these were made possible by the Spirit of the Lord who anointed Jesus. This Spirit descended on Jesus at Baptism (Lk. 4:21-22), led Him from Jordan into the desert (Lk. 4:1) and into Galilee (Lk. 4:19).

In the gospel we see Jesus choosing the passage in the Scriptures which spelt out His identity and life's goal. We are called to search the Scriptures, the Word of God, which not only sheds light on our vocation but moves us into taking concrete action in favour of those in need especially the poor. We are to commit ourselves to this same cause and light of Jesus and work towards the liberation of others so that together with them, we find meaning to our lives thereby making this world a better place for all. This is the message of Love we are to share with all.

Lord, help us live our vocation with love for You and our neighbour so that Your light may shine in and through us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
