We have seen how Paul reminds us to live in the present moment, for "Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!" While we should not cling to the past, there is a proper remembrance of the past which can shed light on the present. Thus, God reminds Abram: "I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans". As Abram in a past time trusted God enough to leave his homeland, so now, in a new present moment, he must be animated by the same reliance and confidence. God has been faithful in guiding Abram's life so far, and so will be faithful in every future. Similarly, God often reminded Israel that he is the Lord who brought them out of Egypt. At the point of death, Jesus recited Psalm 22. This Psalm reflected both on Israel's history and the author's personal history to engender a great trust in God's goodness: God would set him free from all afflictions. Looking to the past, the author moved from a rather dark present into a brighter future. Similarly, reflection on our own personal history can help us to experience God's fidelity and so fill us with the confidence of our faith.

Father in heaven, fill our hearts with the confidence of our faith that we may grow in hope and love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That our society should, with concrete acts of Christian and brotherly love, come to the aid of the millions of refugees who live in extreme need and abandonment.
