Some Pharisees tell Jesus to be on His way because Herod is out to kill Him. It is not certain whether they are doing this out of friendship or whether they just want to get rid of Him by frightening Him. Jesus answers them by telling them to say to Herod that He has to complete the work His Father has given Him to do - His work of bringing healing to people and liberating people from evil forces in their life. "I drive out devils and heal and on the third day I attain my end." His end is His death on the cross but it is also the goal of His life - to be made perfect through His suffering, death and resurrection. In the meantime He is not frightened by the threat of what Herod might do to Him. He will not die until His time has come and He has reached Jerusalem. Until then He will continue doing what He is doing. We also have been given work to do by God and we will keep doing it until it is clear that God is calling us to himself. Is there anything which makes us afraid to do God's work?

Lord, teach me to be generous and to give without counting the cost.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians may not be discouraged by the attacks of secularized society, but with complete trust, may bear witness to their faith and hope.
