Today we continue the theme of last Sunday's Gospel. On the one hand, the Christian community has the right to exclude members who insist on acting contrary to commands of the Gospel and who undermine the Church's witness. But today we are told that, once a member shows true repentance for the harm he/she has caused to a member or the whole community, we must be immediately ready to be reconciled - seven times but seventy times seven. In other words, forgiveness without limit. To illustrate this teaching Jesus tells the parable of two indebted servants. One servant, who is forgiven a huge amount by the king, refuses to forgive a fellow servant for a much smaller amount. The message is clear. The first servant is me and I have - many times - offended my King, yet he forgives me again and again. But I can be so reluctant to forgive a brother or sister over much smaller things. There cannot be a double standard.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who offend us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
