We live in a world surrounded by an abundance of material goods and by the wonders of technology. But these things cannot fill the hunger inside our hearts for truth and peace. The problems that face us today are of a spiritual nature. We need to ask ourselves whether we have become more just, compassionate and generous with the many gifts God has given us? Have we advanced in caring for the least of our brothers and sisters?

There is no clearer example of what is required of us than the story of Jesus healing the leper in today's Gospel. Jesus is 'moved with pity' as the leper approached Him and He stretched out His hand and touched him. Yes, Jesus risked contamination and condemnation because He knew that real healing comes through involvement and the willingness to risk touching others in a caring and loving way. As Jesus did so are we to do for one another. As we gather to celebrate the Eucharist today, let us strive to emulate Jesus in reaching out to others with love, compassion, care and respect.

Dear God, soften our hearts that we may always show compassion and find the patience to respond to others with love, care and respect. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
