Worldly powers have never really understood Jesus. Neither the Roman governor nor the local king can figure out why Jesus is at the centre of such turmoil and controversy. They look for the usual reasons, but find none. Simply put, the example of Jesus is a challenge to everyone. In Him we see what it means to love perfectly, to judge no one, and to be a source of joy and inspiration for others. For some, the example is inspiring and uplifting. For others, it seems like a reproach and is frightening. A true Christian example will always be embraced by some and rejected by others. Is our own example of loving and serving a challenge? Is it noticeable?

Peter denied the Lord three times, and now Jesus is putting him on the spot. He asks him three times, "Do you love me?" and three times Peter affirms his love. But Jesus insists that actions speak louder than words, and love shows itself in deeds. He challenges Peter to show his love by the care and concern he shows for other members of the community. That is our real test of faith. As He commands Peter to follow Him on His journey, He also gives a warning. Following Jesus is not the road to a comfortable or predictable life. There can be struggle and uncertainty at times. The Spirit will take us where we would never dream of going and challenge us to do things we never imagined. But the Lord will be with us at every moment, we need not ever fear.

Lord, help me to love as You love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christian families may lovingly welcome every child who comes into existence and surround the sick and the aged, who need care and assistance, with affection.
