Since Friday of last week we have been reading from the 6th chapter of John where he presents himself as the Bread, the Nourishment of our life. When he goes further and says that partaking of this Nourishment involves eating his Body and drinking his Blood, it is not surprising that some of his listeners are deeply scandalised. Such actions, if taken literally, were totally forbidden by the Law. So today we are told that even some of Jesus' own disciples could not take this and no longer walked with Him.

Jesus is then just left with the Twelve, the inner circle of His disciples. "Will you, too, go away?" Jesus asks them. To which Peter, in the name of all of them, replies: "To whom shall we go? You have the message of the life that never ends." Then comes the solemn profession of faith and commitment: "We believe: we know that you are the Holy One of God." Peter does not say that he and his companions are not disturbed by the words Jesus had just spoken but that they do not see any alternative to following Him. He is the Way, the only Way and they will continue to put all their trust in him. In this they were not to be disappointed. Let us pray to have the same faith and trust in God's call to each one of us.

Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
