In this, Luke's version of the parable of the Talents, there are actually four kinds of people. The majority simply reject the man who has been sent as their king. In doing so, they choose death over life, darkness over light. Their fate - of their own choosing - is inevitable. Then there are the ten servants, each of whom is entrusted with a sum of money which they are told to trade with until the king's return. When the king does come back, one has multiplied his capital by ten and another by five. But the third, for fear of losing it and incurring the king's displeasure, kept it inviolate in a safe place.

We, who recognize Jesus as our King, have each been entrusted with a gift, a talent. It is clear that this gift is not for ourselves but to be used for the building up of the Kingdom, the Kingdom of love, justice and peace. However, there are those who are principally concerned about "saving their souls" But those who only work to save their life will lose it. Only by investing our gift in others and for others will we be the real gainers.

Lord, help me to identify clearly the special gifts You have given me to share with others. Teach me to invest them well and, at the end to hear those wonderful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant"

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
