Today we can express our thanks to Luke for the beautiful picture of Jesus that he gives us. Nowhere does a Gospel reveal more touchingly the gentleness and compassion of Jesus for the poor and the weak and, at the same time, no other Gospel indicates more clearly the total commitment that following Jesus entails. "None of you can be my disciple unless he gives up everything that he has" (Lk. 14:33). And today's reading reminds us that the essence of our Christian living is sharing the Gospel with others. The harvest is great, the labourers few. But we are entering an exciting era in our Church's life as we realise that all of us, and not just clerics and religious, are called to be harvesters. Furthermore, we are reminded that Jesus comes into people's lives after we have prepared the way for His coming and that the true follower of Jesus goes through life with the very minimum of baggage (whatever form it may take). All we need to have with us is our message of love and healing for both body and mind.

Father, You chose Luke the evangelist to reveal by preaching and writing the mystery of Your love for the poor. Help us, too, to be filled with that love and show it by the way we live.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
