Jeremiah seems to admit that he was somewhat lacking in attention: the Lord had informed him about the existence of a plot, but Jeremiah did not realize that the plot was directed against himself. How often are we also less than attentive to the word of God! At each Eucharist, the Word of God is read, and the point of the reading is obviously that those present at Mass should listen attentively as if it were addressed to each one personally. The Lord told Jeremiah about a plot, and Jeremiah seems to have heard it as a mere piece of information. The word of God, however, is never addressed to us merely to convey information. Any information which the word of God contains is merely incidental to its function as revelation.

Vatican II taught us unequivocally that the primary and significant truth contained in Scripture is precisely "salvific truth". The word of God then is never mere information - it is intended for our formation in faith and for our transformation in grace, so that we become more and more like the Word of God made flesh.

Lord, grant us the grace of an attentive and perceptive heart, so that Your word may suffuse our lives and transform us into true images of Your Son.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the word of God may be ever more listened to, contemplated, loved and lived.
