INTENTION : That following the example of the Virgin Mary, all Christians should allow themselves to be guided by the word of God and always remain attentive to the signs of the Lord in their own lives.

Outstanding among the saints is Mary - the mirror of all holiness. In Luke (1:56) we find her assisting her cousin Elizabeth, with whom she remained for about "three months". In the words, "My soul magnifies the Lord" she expressed her whole programme of life: not setting herself at the center, but leaving space for God, who was encountered both in prayer and in service of neighbour.

Mary spoke and thought with the Word of God which became her word from which issued the Word of God. Here we see how her thoughts were attuned to the thoughts of God, how her will was one with the will of God. Since she was completely imbued with the Word of God, she was able to become the Mother of the Word Incarnate. Mary was a woman who loved. How could it be otherwise?

We see these aspects of love manifested when she recognized the need of the spouses at Cana, when she receded in humility into the background during Jesus' public life, and that her hour will come only with the Cross, which will be Jesus' true hour (Jn 2:4; 13:1). Mary remained beneath the Cross when the disciples fled, and later gathered with them at Pentecost for the Holy Spirit's descent. Can we, like Mary, be attentive to the signs of God's invitation to be available to others in their lives?
