Andrew was the brother of Peter. In John's gospel he was one of two disciples of John the Baptist who went to spend a day with Jesus. As a result of this experience, Andrew went to his brother, Simon, and said "We have found the Messiah." He is also the one who, with Philip, brought two people to Jesus who said they wanted to see him. Andrew is the one, too, who found the small boy with the loaves and fishes with which Jesus would feed more than 5,000 people.

In today's Gospel, he is, with his brother Peter, one of four fishermen who were called by Jesus to follow him. There and then they left their boats, their fishing gear and even family members to go with Jesus. It was a great act of trust as they really had no idea what they were letting themselves in for. They would experience many surprises, be asked to make many sacrifices but one can be sure that they never regretted the step they took that day. Let us ask Andrew today for us to be able to make the same unconditional act of trust that the Way of Jesus is the way to life and happiness.

Follow me, says the Lord, and it is people you will fish.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
