Have you ever watched a potter at work? The artist starts with a formless blob of clay. Hands twist the clay, pound it, shape it. Sometimes the clay is flattened. At other times it is stretched and pulled. The potter smoothes the rough spots. It may happen that little pieces must be cut off and grafted back again in a different form. Always the potter works with patience moulding, refining, smoothing. Finally the artist's creation is ready for the firing. Only after it has been seared in the flames does the beauty, the brightness, the glowing colours shine out.

God reminds us in the reading from Jeremiah, "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand." God is the potter, I am the clay. Am I willing to put myself into the divine potter's hands, to let Him shape me, mould me, form me as He wishes? Or at times do I want to make myself according to my own image, to define for myself what is worthwhile in my life and what is useless as described in today's Gospel? Let us have the trust to pray:

Lord, my God, You are the potter, I am the clay. Mould me, shape me, bend me into Your own image, and let that image reflect Your beauty to all I meet along the way in our journey to You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That there may be an increase in the number of those who, as volunteers, offer their services to the Christian community with generous and prompt availability.
