One of the saddest stories in the Gospel as Jesus heads towards his Passion and Death. It is the Last Supper and Jesus is at table with his chosen disciples. They are sharing the Bread and the Cup which are the sacramental signs of his Body and Blood and so identifying totally with him. In fact, they are not quite ready for such a commitment but, one of them in particular, will take the Bread, dipped in the dish, and receive it from the very hands of Jesus. It is a moment of complete betrayal. Cynically, he had asked if he was the one who would 'hand over' his Master. "You have said it." It was an act he would be bitterly regret and end his own life in shame and remorse. But he was only the worst. Peter, the braggart, will swear three times he never heard of Jesus. The others will disappear completely, not to re-appear until after the Lord is risen. It is not for us to sit in judgement on these men. Would we have acted differently in the circumstances? And how often have we betrayed our following of Christ in thought, word, deed and - perhaps most of all - by omission? Let us really look at Jesus these days as he goes through his Passion for us.

I will make you the light of the nations so that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation between persons and people may be understood and that the Church through her testimony, may spread Christ's love, the source of new humanity.
