Today's Gospel speaks - in John's gospel - of the first person to meet the Risen Christ - Mary Magdalen. She is alone at the empty tomb and overcome with grief at the loss of the One she loved so much. Suddenly she hears a voice ask, "Why are you weeping?" She turned and saw a man standing there and she thought it was the gardener. Then the man said, "Mary!" At once she recognised the voice of her Lord, of her Good Shepherd and began clinging to him. He was not going to get away this time. But she was not to hang on to the Jesus she had known in the past. He is going to be present to her in a new way, in the communities of his followers. They will now be the Body of the Risen Lord. She is then told to give the good news to all the other disciples. She becomes, in this gospel, the very first person to proclaim the Resurrection. It is a reward for her great love, for her fidelity in being with Jesus to his last breath on the Cross. It is for us, too, as members of Christ's Body, to make his presence and his message known to the world.

This day was made by the Lord; we rejoice and we are glad.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the Lord may bless the farmers' work with an abundant harvest and sensitize the richer populations to the drama of hunger in the world.
