The Book of Wisdom was written about two hundred years before Christ was born. In this extract, the writer pens an invitation to strive for wisdom. He addresses it to all rulers when actually what he has to say is meant for everyone. This is his way to stress the importance of his message: that acquiring wisdom means having a heartfelt determination to be just and fair to all, observing God's Law and God's will. Recognising and learning from the law of God, and obeying it will be well-rewarded.

In Christ's time, in the incident of the curing of the ten lepers, we see another aspect of this reward. Calling from afar, the ten plead with Jesus for a cure, and from afar, He tells them to show themselves to the priests. In those days, lepers had to have their cures affirmed by the priests. At this point of time, they were not cured yet, but obediently they did as they were told. Only as they were on their way did their cure take place. Only one of them, the Samaritan, realising what had happened, turned back, praising God. He "threw himeself at the feet of Jesus and thanked Him."

This episode reveals that the cure came from God through Jesus. Notice that Jesus did not expect gratitude - He said, "...but no one has come back to give praise to God." (Lk:17: 19).

Lord, grant us the Wisdom to know Your will, to obey it and to see You active in Jesus, as the Samaritan leper did. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all men and women in the world, especially those who have responsibilities in the field of politics and economics, may never fail in their commitment to safeguard creation.
