Paul reminds us that at the heart of all that we do there must be love. The eloquence of angels, the deepest insights of the human mind into life's mysteries, even a faith that can move mountains is nothing whatever if not motivated by love. Even stripping oneself bare of all possessions, or even of life itself has no value if there is no love behind it. Love here is not the frothy emotion of romance but a deep concern for the wellbeing of every single person and a passionate attachment to God and every value that He represents.

Such a love may not always be recognized or returned. Jesus, the most loving human being that ever lived, well knows that as the people in His own town drive Him out. It is only a prelude to a later and final rejection by His own people. Paul, too, knew that a life spent in love for others will not always be recognized. Our love, too, has to be generous and unconditional.

Lord Jesus, teach me to love as You loved, freely, generously and unconditionally.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
