When we read the newspaper or watch TV we are confronted with so much suffering, fear, violence, and injustice. Perhaps we even experience some of this in our everyday life. Some people wonder why God would create such a world or tolerate such negativity. In fact, this world that we experience is our own creation. We live in the world that human beings have created so we should not blame God. But the image from Isaiah assures us that God has a burning desire for a very different world. In this world of God there is no injustice, suffering, and tragedy. It is a world of joy and delight, a world in which one is delighted to be alive. Isaiah calls it a new heaven and a new earth - and who would not want it? How do we make it happen? It has already been given to us but it is like an unopened gift. Our minds and hearts must be open to receive it.

Faith is a powerful tool in creating this new heaven and earth. So often our 'faith' depends on signs and proofs from God. Our response is 'Yes, I believe, but¡K' Jesus is a bit disheartened at those around him - they seem to need so much reassurance and proof. But the persistence and trust of the royal official and his willingness to send messengers to Jesus moves him and he grants the requested healing. The man believed what Jesus told him and when he returns home he discovers his son in good health. God can only work miracles and wonders in our midst when we have the faith to receive them.

Lord, open my heart to receive Your blessings.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
