"Walking in the path of truth" is an essential part of our religion, but there is another even more important aspect, the aspect of love, "Let us love one another." We must in all things strive to live the truth in love, as the Letter to the Ephesians (4:15) reminds us. It is both very interesting and very formative to realize how different New Testament letters, written by very different people and against very different backgrounds, frequently return to the same fundamentals of our faith. The Second Letter of John, which we read today, and the Letter to the Ephesians, both remind us of the necessity of ensuring a close welding together of truth and love. Jesus affirmed Himself as the truth, and St John affirmed for us that God is love. When this Second Letter of John reminds us that "love involves walking according to the commandments," we hear an echo of the First Letter of St John. Then, too, our minds and hearts can return to the Gospel of John to hear Jesus giving us a new commandment, "Love one another as I have loved you." We walk in the truth by living according to the word of Jesus, particularly according to this word of the new commandment.

Lord Jesus, grant us the grace to live the truth in love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
