We can somewhat sense the joy that the leper felt when he was cured of the disease. This dreaded disease made him an outcast in society because he was considered unclean and at that time any physical contact with lepers would result in ritual defilement. Perhaps we can reflect on some of the subtle ways in which we still perpetuate social and religious ostracization.

It is in such a context that Jesus healed this leper and readmitted him into the community. Jesus' healing was total: body, mind and soul. This is the experience of salvation when we recall our baptismal experience especially for those who were baptized as adults - this is certainly a deep and profound encounter with the Lord.

Another point to note is in terms of Christian discipleship - Jesus' intimate relationship with his Father through prayer in the midst of activity and in the face of popular enthusiasm. In wanting to do only His Father's will, Jesus knew the importance of entering into communion with his Father. This was the way he gained the inner strength and peace he received in the midst of all his activities.

We too need to learn how to integrate our active life with the contemplative communion with God. With this we can keep the vision of God alive in the midst of all our daily experiences. So, to be Jesus' disciples, we want to be like Him in integrating our prayer and work so as to be effective instruments of His peace, hope and love in our world.

Lord, grant me the grace to grow in my relationship with You so as to be Your true disciple.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
