In today's Gospel Jesus warns against hypocrisy of any kind and He tells us to beware of the attitude of the Scribes. Their religious practices are shown in outward performance and often at the cost of others. Jesus sees into the hearts of people. As He observes the people putting money into the treasury He praises the poor widow who gave her two small coins. Her offering is not of much worth in material terms but it is the gift of herself and all that she possesses. What a sacrifice this is for her in comparison to those who give from their abundance, Jesus draws the attention of the disciples to this widow. What does He want to convey to them and to us today? What we give from our hearts in sincerity is what is important in God's eyes.

Paul echoes this teaching of Jesus in today's first reading to Timothy when he urges him not to be led astray by false teachers but to proclaim the word unceasingly in spite of hardships. Paul, like the widow in the gospel has given his all. He is speaking from his own experience. His life has been poured out like a sacrifice and he will receive his reward.

Lord, help us to live our lives in sincerity and be willing to give of ourselves for the sake of Your mission.

Novena to the Sacred Heart

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
