Today, the scripture readings speak about the kingship of Jesus, although in different ways. In the first reading, Daniel describes his dream in which he sees "one like a son of man", who receives heavenly gifts of everlasting dominion, glory, and kingship over the nations. The psalm celebrates the kingship of Yahweh and proclaims His majestic and eternal reign over the earth. In the Book of Revelation, Jesus is proclaimed as "the Ruler of the kings of the earth."

In the Gospel passage, Jesus describes to Pilate the origin, quality and meaning of Jesus' kingship. Yes, Jesus is a king but of a different type. His kingdom is not of this world since it is not of earthly origin. No human authority has approved his kingship as his power is "from above" and superior to all human power. In addition, Jesus' kingship is based on the "truth". Jesus points out that his whole mission is to witness to the truth. Only those who are committed to him, who is the Truth, hear his voice. And to those who hear his voice and base their lives on him, Jesus becomes the Lord of their lives.

The readings of today challenge us to reflect on the kingship of Jesus in our own lives. Is our proclamation of Jesus as king born out of a deep commitment to him or from a conviction to live in his truth?

Lord, help me to deepen my commitment to Your kingship.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
