The people in Lystra thought that gods had visited them in human form. Why? Because Paul and Barnabas had been able to heal a crippled man. They were intent on worshipping the two apostles and were even preparing the sacrifices. Paul resolutely refused divine honours and made it clear that he and Barnabas were mere humans but that the Spirit of God working through them was very real. Perhaps we have convinced ourselves that miracles don't happen anymore or that only saints and special people are able to do great things for others. The Spirit of God can and does work through anyone - we should not think of the hand of God as something strange or unusual. We are all capable of the same when we are open to God's Spirit.

Jesus insisted that anyone who loves God obeys his commandments and walks in his ways. God is not impressed with lip-service or hypocrisy. If you love the Lord show it in your life. But there is also a wonderful promise that goes with that command. Jesus and the Father will come and dwell in the heart and soul of the believer who loves and obeys the commandments. The believer will share in the divine power and life of the Trinity. We needn't wait until we die to experience and know God personally - it can begin in this life. How and when it begins depends on how much we love and walk the divine path.

Lord, open me to Your Spirit.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
