According to psychologists, a person confronted with death usually undergoes these stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance. In daily life, many "little deaths" confront us. The Lord invites us to die to our worldly values and self-preoccupation. For only when we die to selfishness can selfless giving grow. Only when we die to spiritual pride can humble self-offering be made. Only when we die to insecure jealousy can we be truly happy for others. Only when we die to inordinate attachments can our inner freedom live. Only when we die to hatred can true love grow. "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much fruit." Confronted with these "daily deaths," we may undergo denial, anger, bargaining and depression before we finally accept to die to all in us that is really not life-giving. Then again, we have hope when we are in the Lord, for nothing is impossible with him. His faithfulness assures us that he is with us, even in our dying. We have to "let go and let God." For only when we finally die with him can we fully live with him.

Lord, grant me the grace to die with You, that I may live with You when You come in glory.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
